A Walk in Zhangzha Village

Late Afternoon, Day 9 (30 October 2012)

At 4:30 p.m., I exited the park entrance. There was no taxi in sight, contrary to a lot of bloggers who said taxi were aplenty at Jiuzhaigou. Anyway, with my Garmin working again since yesterday, I decided to walk back to the hotel. I thought it was just about 800 metres away, having mistaken the waypoint of the bus station for my hotel waypoint. It was actually two kilometres away, taking me 30 minutes to reach the hotel. This was a rather short walk compared to the day's walk in Jiuzhaigou.

  1. May I ask which Garmin device you are using? Can it work properly in China and other overseas countries? I wonder how you get the map of China for your Garmin device.

    1. I am using Garmin eTrex 20. You can get the map from two sources 1)http://garmin.openstreetmap.nl/ with files in Garmin "img" format and 2)using the program JOSM (Java OpenStreetMap Editor) which will bring you to the OpenStreetMap download area and the map is in "gpx" and "osm" formats.

I bought it in Singapore and it worked fine in Singapore, Malaysia, PNG and China. However, it did malfunction for a few days (probably hardware or power problem). It is okay now but I still do not know why it malfunctioned.
